Policy 3010A - Enrollment Policy

Enrollment Policy

RISE Charter School is a public charter school open to any student regardless of race, color, national or ethnic origin, religious affiliation, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, social or economic status, and/or special needs. All enrolled students regardless of background are afforded the same rights, privileges, programs, and activities available to all students.

Initial Enrollment

RISE accepts students up to the defined class enrollment limit in the grades currently served. There are no academic enrollment requirements.  RISE reserves the right to decline enrollment to students if false or misleading information is included on the enrollment application form.

Enrollment Preference

Enrollment preference is given to: (1) Current students; (2) children of school board members and children of staff, (3) siblings of current students; and (4) students living within the Kimberly School District boundaries. Students from outside the Kimberly District may only be admitted after all Kimberly School District students on the applicable waiting list have been given an opportunity to enroll.

The RISE School Board is committed to growing and maintaining a diverse student body that mirrors its surrounding district. In order to meet that goal, the district may deny out-of-district students enrollment for the following reasons:

  1. The student was expelled by the previous District.
  2. The student has a documented history of significant disciplinary issues or history of chronic absenteeism.
    1. Students applying who have a 504 plan or IEP may not be denied enrollment or have enrollment revoked if the behavior resulting in disciplinary action or chronic absenteeism is a manifestation of the student’s disability.
  3. The School does not have space available according to the capacity limits set by the Board of Directors.

Ineligible Students

If a student applies and is accepted to RISE from out of the Kimberly School District boundaries, but fails to attend, that student may be ineligible to apply again for enrollment in this district.
