Unpaid School Meal Charges

As RISE Charter School contracts with the Kimberly School District for the provision and administration of nutrition and food services, the Charter School is committed to operating its meal programs in accordance with the policies, procedures, and regulatory standards established by the District. Therefore, RISE Charter School hereby adopts Kimberly School District’s Policy 8220P – Delinquent Food Service Accounts to ensure consistent practices, compliance with all applicable federal and state requirements, and the responsible management of student meal account balances.

Delinquent Food Service Accounts

Delinquent Account Policy

1. Account Balance Threshold

  • A single or combined family account balance that exceeds $250 will be considered a delinquent account.

2. Billing Schedule

  • The district will issue bills twice a month for any outstanding balances.

3. Communication

  • To ensure timely payment, weekly phone calls and emails will be made to the parent or guardian regarding unpaid balances.
  • Payments may be made in the following ways:
  • Cash or check delivered to any school office
  • Cash, check, or card paid directly to the Child Nutrition Office
  • Online through a MealTime account
  • Additionally, parents or guardians will receive:
  • An email notification
  • A written letter notifying them of the delinquent outstanding balance
  • Families will be provided 30 calendar days to settle the balance before further action is taken.

4. Unpaid Accounts of Transferred Students

  • If a student transfers out of the district with an unpaid balance, the account will still be considered delinquent, and collection efforts will continue.

5. Collection Process

  • If the delinquent balance remains unpaid after the 30-day period, the account will be sent to a collection agency on behalf of Kimberly School District for recovery efforts.
  • If a student account was sent to collections in a previous school year and is sent again in the current school year, any payment will be applied to the oldest outstanding debt first.
